The 注意君主 campaign encourages ODU Monarchs 和 community members traveling across campus on foot, 自行车, or by bus or car to keep their heads up 和 pay attention to their surroundings.
This is particularly important in shared road spaces (those supporting multiple modes of transportation) because of the additional types of interactions that can occur.
The campaign encourages Monarchs to keep their heads up in the following ways:
- Don't use your phone while driving!Using your phone to text, make phone calls, or other activities is dangerous!
- Watch for pedestrians; particularly 在人行横道, 和 near sidewalks.
- Watch for people on 自行车s, e-scooters, or skateboards; they may be in 自行车 lanes or in the drive lane. Become familiar with cycling signals (turn 和 breaking signals).
- Review 和 follow ODU's Policy 3231: Use of Bicycles, Skateboards 和 Personal Transport Devices on University Property
- Off-Campus: Yield to pedestrians 和 remember, e-scooter use on sidewalks is prohibited in some areas of Norfolk, particularly Downtown.
- On-Campus: Yield to pedestrians when using an e-scooter on sidewalks, 在人行横道, 和 near building entrances/exits.
- Watch for people driving 和 act predictably, particularly when riding in the street or crossing the street.
- Review 和 follow ODU's Policy 3231:Use of Bicycles, Skateboards 和 Personal Transport Devices on University Property
- Use proper signaling.
- Yield to pedestrians 和 remember, bicycle use on sidewalks is prohibited in some areas of downtown Norfolk.
- Watch for pedestrians; particularly 在人行横道, but also when near sidewalks.
- Watch for people driving 和 act predictably, particularly when taking a full lane.
- Review 和 follow ODU's Policy 3231:Use of Bicycles, Skateboards 和 Personal Transport Devices on University Property
- Yield to pedestrians 和 remember, skateboards use on sidewalks is prohibited in some areas of downtown Norfolk.
- Watch for pedestrians; particularly 在人行横道, but also when near sidewalks.
- Watch for people driving 和 act predictably, particularly when taking a full lane.
- Act predictably, particularly when crossing a road.
- Watch for people on 自行车s 和 become familiar with cycling signals (turn 和 breaking signals).
